A video aired at last night’s Garin Tzabar farewell ceremony in New York. In mid-August, our Garin Tzabar 2012 participants will be making Aliyah to Israel and joining the army. We raise our hats to them, wish them Mazal Tov and b’Hatzlacha. We admire and appreciate you endlessly, Garin Tzabar participants.
Israel Photo of the Day: Friendship Caravan Atzmaut Tour!
This week, we were graced with the arrival of last Summer’s Caravan Pisgah crew, who are back for 2 weeks of touring the Tri-State area on a tour for Yom Ha’Atzmaut. So far, Pisgah has been quite a hit, singing classic Israeli folk songs and more! We love Israel, we love Yom HaAtzmaut, and we love Tzofim Friendship Caravan!! What’s your favorite Israeli song? Israel Photo of the Day - Tekes
Garin Tzabar, Tzofim’s army program for Diaspora Jews who want to serve in the Israeli army, while maintaining and growing a network and family of like-minded peers. This photograph captures Garin Tzabar participants happily celebrating a step forward in their progress; at a tekes, or ceremony, as part of their army service. On breaks from their service, Garin Tzabar participants return home to their host Kibbutz to relax and spend time with their Garin; their community; their friends; their family.
Israel Photo of the Day - Touring Jerusalem - Authentically
This photo captures the essence of Chetz v’Keshet. It’s a Summer in Israel… Israeli Style! All madrichim (counselors) and tour guides are Israeli soldiers, with backgrounds in education and youth programming, who are trained to be able to provide the best possible tours of our sites. This makes the trip accessible to everyone - Israelis who think they know everything there is to know (and are usually surprised to find out they don’t), and those who have never been to Israel before in their lives. This photo, of an Israeli madricha giving our teens a tour around Jerusalem’s Old City, truly captures that experience in a moment. 83 days til CVK! Are you excited?
Israel Photo of the Day - Garin Tzabar
As we prep for the Summer, another huge experience on the horizon for us during those sweltering months is the completion of another round of Garin Tzabar seminars in America. Garin Tzabar, founded in 1991, is a group formed for Diaspora Jews and children of Israelis who choose to move to Israel and serve in the IDF. Garin Tzabar provides for their participants a community which they may not otherwise receive. Each “Garin”, which means core or seed in Hebrew, is placed in a hosting Israeli Kibbutz, where they spend their breaks from the army, grow closer with each other and with their kibbutz, and adjust to Israeli life and culture.
Every August, Garin Tzabar groups which started their seminars in the previous December, make Aliyah, and begin the rest of their lives. We are so proud of them, and we are so excited to see what this Summer brings for Garin Tzabar!
Israel Photo of the Day - Horah!

Israel Photo of the Day: Gadna
One aspect that makes CVK unique among Summer Israel trips for high schoolers, is our “Gadna Week.” Every Summer, CVK participants spend one week doing Gadna - basic training - with Tzahal (the Israeli army). This not only gives chanichim a taste of what it is like to serve in the Israeli army, and teaches important survival skills for like, but also helps participants to bond with each other on a deeper level (who else can say they’ve gone a week without showering - and their best friends still want to hug them??), and embeds lessons learned on leadership training seminars during the opening weekend.
